With its enigmatic frozen figures, ominous landscapes and undisclosed scientific endeavours Christopher Orr’s work seemed to be a perfect starting point for a story-telling and poetry event. So when we opened The Beguiled Eye (15 November 2014 – 14 February 2015) we also launched Until Only the Mountain Remains, a project aiming to expand upon the themes of the artist’s work and a public call for creative writing submissions.

The culmination of the project was an evening of story-telling and poetry on 6 February, with readings of public submissions and readings by some of the University of Edinburgh’s creative writers : Dilys Rose, Allyson Stack, Jane McKie and Russell Jones. This website brings together a broader selection of writing submitted during the course of the exhibition.

I would like to thank everyone who took part. Your numerous stories – ranging from horror, science fiction and human drama – and evocative poetry, have allowed us to create this website as a poignant reminder of how the ideas contained in an exhibition ripple out in many directions and lead to new ideas.
